A chi appartengono i morti?

Looks like the Catholic Church wants to exhume the body of Cardinal John Henry Newman and move it to a new grave in the Birmingham Oratory church, in preparation for his canonisation. Nothing strange, one would say, except that the reason for this move is suspicious to say the least, and goes against the explicit wish of the Cardinal to be buried together with Father Ambrose St.John, "and I give this as my last, my imperative will" - the same Ambrose St.John who had shared his life for over 30 years and of whom he wrote "From the first he loved me with an intensity of love which was unaccountable" and later "As far as this world was concerned, I was his first and last", describing his death thus: "This is the greatest affliction I have had in my life … he was my earthly light".
Um.
It's really not too hard to guess why, after 120 years, the Church wants those two separated, even against the opinion (according to a Church Times poll) of over 80% of its members.
Peter Thatchell's article on Comment is Usually Worthless But Not This Time is highly recommended reading.
